MOORESVILLE, N.C. (February 4, 2019) – The Kyle Larson Racing team kicked off the 2019 season this past weekend at Bubba Raceway Park in Ocala, Fla. Carson Macedo competed in two nights of action with the All Star Circuit of Champions and highlighted it by earning a top-10 finish.
During Thursday night’s season opener, the 22-year-old qualified fourth in Group D, 12th overall and won his heat race from the pole starting position. Macedo went on to win the first of two dashes to line him up on the pole of the 30-lap feature event. Unfortunately, the handling of the Chevrolet Accessories No. 2 was off from the start and he began to slip backwards. The caution was displayed on lap 18 for Macedo as he came to a stop on the track with a broken nose wing. He went to the work area but was unable to rejoin the field, resulting in a 21st-place score.
The following night, Macedo qualified second in Group B, 11th overall, before finishing fourth in Heat 2. The Lemoore, Calif., native lined up 15th on the starting grid and quickly gained two positions. Just after the halfway point, he advanced three more spots, making his way into the top 10. In the closing laps, Macedo was able to maintain the position and earned a 10th-place finish.
“Overall, our outing at Bubba Raceway Park was a learning experience,” said Macedo. “Thursday night we had some speed early which earned us a front row starting spot, but when it came time for the feature, we had our struggles. Since it was the first night with a new car and a new team at a new track for all of us, we were trying to be a little bit on the conservative side with the racecar. We quickly learned what we needed and came back out Friday night and we were able to move forward in the feature.”
The Kyle Larson Racing team will be back in action this week for five nights of racing starting on Wednesday for opening night of the DIRTcar Nationals at Volusia Speedway Park in Barberville, Fla.
