DUEL IN THE DESERT: The World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series will travel to Arizona this weekend for two nights of racing in the desert. On Friday, the Kyle Larson Racing team and Carson Macedo are set to compete at USA Raceway in Tucson followed up by Arizona Speedway in Queen Creek on Saturday.

USA RACEWAY: Macedo has one start at USA Raceway with the World of Outlaws in 2013. After advancing from the Last Chance Showdown into the feature event, he unfortunately hit an infield tire, ending his night and relegating him to a 23rd-place finish. KLR has two previous starts at the 3/8-mile circuit with Shane Stewart and earned a runner up score in 2015 and a fifth-place finish the following year.

ARIZONA SPEEDWAY: In 2016, Macedo competed in the Western World Championship with the USAC National Sprint Cars at Arizona Speedway. He finished 16th on the opening night and followed that up with a ninth-place finish in Saturday’s finale. Earlier that same year, Stewart and the KLR team stood at the top of the podium at the high-banked, 1/3-mile circuit. In the two following seasons, Stewart earned an eighth-place score in 2017 and a fourth-place run last year.

CONSISTENCY IS KEY: The KLR team and Macedo finished inside of the top-10 in all five races in the Golden State and earned their first win of the season at Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico, Calif. They currently sit fourth in the World of Outlaws championship point standings just 48 points out of the lead.

MACEDO’S OUTLOOK: “I’m not really sure what to expect on Friday night at USA Raceway,” said Macedo. “It’s been a few years since I have raced there but from what I remember, it’s kind of a big circle so hopefully we can show up with some speed. As for Arizona Speedway, it’s an awesome racetrack. I feel like it puts a great show on every year. This KLR team has put together fast racecars all season and we have has some consistent runs over the last few races, so I have confidence we can have a good weekend. We are all very happy to have Heath out of the hospital and back on the road with us.”
