GIVE ME FIVE: The World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series kicks off the Month of Money this week in Ohio. Kyle Larson Racing and Carson Macedo are set for five straight nights of competition across the Buckeye State with the Greatest Show on Dirt. Tonight, the KLR team will be at Attica (Ohio) Raceway Park for the Brad Doty Classic. Starting on Wednesday, they will then be at the famed Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio for the rain-postponed #LetsRaceTwo, Jokers Wild, Knight Before the Kings Royal, and ultimately ending on Saturday night with the $175,000-to-win Kings Royal.
BRAD DOTY CLASSIC: Macedo has competed in the Brad Doty Classic the past three seasons. In 2016, he qualified 18th and finished fifth in heat race before finishing sixth in the C-Main. The following year, Macedo qualified 15th in the opening flight of time trials and finished fifth in his heat race. He earned the final transfer position out of the Last Chance Showdown to finish 18th in the feature. Last year, the Lemoore, Calif., native qualified third in the opening flight of time trials and finished second in his heat race. He won the dash to start on the pole of the 40-lap feature event, where he ultimately finished fifth.
#LETSRACETWO: Earlier this season, Macedo kicked off the #LetsRaceTwo weekend by qualifying fifth in Flight 2 of time trials. He grabbed the early lead in the fifth heat race and went on to win, earning a spot in the DIRTVision Fast Pass Dash. Again, the pilot of the Chevrolet Accessories, Tarlton and Son, Inc., Complete Parts and Equipment Solutions No. 2 seized the lead to claim a front row starting spot for the 30-lap feature event. The main event went wire-to-wire and Macedo earned a solid third-place finish. Saturday’s #LetsRaceTwo finale was postponed and is set to be made up on Wednesday.
KINGS ROYAL 2018:Last season, Macedo kicked off the Kings Royal weekend Friday night with the Knight Before the Kings Royal event. He qualified seventh in Flight 2 of time trials and finished second in his heat race, earning a spot in the dash. Macedo earned the fourth row outside starting position for the feature event where he finished seventh. Unfortunately, Macedo broke a rear-end in qualifying during Saturday’s finale, ending his Kings Royal.
KLR AT THE BIG “E”: Eldora Speedway has been one of KLR’s most successful circuits on the World of Outlaws tour in the teams six-year tenure. The team’s career-first victory came at their initial visit to the famed half-mile in 2014. In 2015, Shane Stewart swept the Kings Royal, winning the Knight Before and Saturday’s Kings Royal rain-postponed finale, where he was able to advance from 14th to claim victory when the checkered-flag finally flew around 4am. Stewart claimed the top spot in the 2017 4-Crown Nationals and won the Jokers Wild event last season to kick off Kings Royal weekend.
BATTLE OF MICHIGAN RECAP: The World of Outlaws made their one and only stop in Michigan this season this past Friday night at Hartford Speedway. Macedo kicked off the night by qualifying second and winning his heat race. He went on to win the DIRTVision Fast Pass Dash and start on the pole of the 30-lap feature event. Macedo led the opening 16 laps before slipping back and finishing fourth.
BADGER 40 RECAP: The following night, the 23-year-old qualified 15th and finished third in his heat race, lining him up to start ninth in the 40-lap Badger 40 at Wilmot (Wisc.) Raceway. After slipping back as far as 12th, Macedo started to make moves after the halfway point of the feature event and climbed to a sixth-place finish.
