MIDWESTERN WEEKEND: The World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series heads straight to Wisconsin for this Saturday’s Jim Boyd Memorial at Beaver Dam (Wisc.) Raceway as Friday night’s event at Farley (Iowa) Speedway was canceled due to rain.
JIM BOYD MEMORIAL: Last year, Shane Stewart was the fourth fastest qualifier in Flight B of time trials and started on the outside of the front row for his heat race. He was able to get the early lead and won his heat by 3.3 seconds to transfer into the Craftsman Club Dash. The dash inversion was completely inverted, lining Stewart up to start fifth. He was able to gain a spot to earn the fourth starting position for the 40-lap main event. Stewart was up to the second position by Lap 5. Shortly after, he biked the No. 2 in turn two and while coming back down the track on the back stretch, got into Donny Schatz who was running third. The red flag was displayed for Schatz, but Stewart was able to keep going despite some damage to the top wing of the No. 2. Stewart was able to capture the lead at the halfway point of the race, but the caution came out reverting the lineup back to the previous lap. On the ensuing restart, the Bixby, Okla., native was able to steal the lead to earn the victory. Highlights available here.
