STEWART CAPS OFF JACKSON NATIONALS WEEKEND WITH TOP-10 FINISH

MOORESVILLE, N.C. (June 11, 2018) – The World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series headed to the newly reconfigured Jackson (Minn.) Motorplex this weekend for the 40th Annual AGCO Jackson Nationals. Unfortunately, due to heavy rain, Thursday night’s event was postponed to Saturday afternoon. Kyle Larson Racing and Shane Stewart earned a pair of top-15 scores in Friday night and Saturday afternoon’s preliminary races, before finishing eighth in Saturday night’s finale.

In the opening flight of qualifying on Friday, Stewart was quick time and earned a new track record – which he held on to until one of the last cars in Flight 2 beat him by 0.07 seconds. He went on to win his heat race and gain two positions in the Sears Craftsman Club dash to earn the fifth starting spot for the 30-lap main event. Through several restarts, Stewart lost positions and finished the first preliminary night of competition in 13th-place.

On Saturday afternoon, the Bixby, Okla., native qualified ninth in Flight A of qualifying and finished fifth in his heat race. Stewart lined up on the inside of row nine for the 30-lap main event and gained two positions on a rubber-down race track to finish 15th.

Going into Saturday night’s Jackson Nationals’ finale, Stewart sat 13th in overall points, lining him up to start from the inside of row two in the opening heat race. After the Jackson Motorplex crews reworked the 4/10-mile dirt oval, Stewart finished third in his heat race, transferring him into the 40-lap $3,000 to start finale.

Stewart started the feature event from the 13th starting position and quickly jumped up to the top-10 on the opening lap. The following circuit he was able to gain two more spots and was up to seventh by lap 3. After a caution on lap 24, Stewart was able to jump up to sixth but slipped back two positions in the closing laps to finish eighth.

“It was an up and down weekend for sure,” said Stewart. “But to round it out with an eighth-place finish was a nice rebound. The Jackson Motorplex crew did a great job getting all of the events in this weekend and turning the track around to run two shows on Saturday. I can’t thank my guys enough for all of their hard work this weekend, Saturday was a long day and they just kept on going to make our ENEOS No. 2 faster.”

The Kyle Larson Racing team will be back in action on Friday, June 15 at River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks, ND for the Northern Tour. Tickets for Friday’s show can be purchased here.
