MOORESVILLE, N.C. (March 5, 2018) – Shane Stewart and the Kyle Larson Racing team wrapped up their first event on the west coast Thursday night at The Dirt Track at Las Vegas (Nev.) Motor Speedway. The World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series completed two nights in Las Vegas and were scheduled to race at Perris (Calif.) Auto Speedway on Saturday, but the event was canceled due to weather.
On the opening night of the FVP Outlaw Showdown on Wednesday, Stewart qualified sixth in the opening flight of time trials. He started third in his heat race, but the inside lane didn’t get a great start relegating the Bixby, Okla., native to a fourth-place finish. Stewart started the 30-lap main event in 15th and was able to survive a rash of cautions to finish 12th.
The following night, Stewart timed in eighth in Flight B of qualifying and finished fifth in his heat race. He started the 30-lap feature in 20th and was up to 14th by lap 3. The red flag was displayed on lap 13 and Stewart restarted 13th when the field went back to green. The caution was displayed two more times in four laps, slowing the flow of the race. The pilot of the No. 2 restarted in 14th on lap 17 and was up to 12th with 10 laps remaining. Stewart survived one more caution and gained two more spots to finish 10th.
“It was great to have the DC Solar group out at the track Wednesday night,” said Stewart “I just wish we could have gotten a better finish for them. We’ve recently switched to RPM chassis and are still struggling a little bit with the set-up and handling. We will keep learning and get headed in the right direction, but it felt good to leave Vegas with a top-10 finish.”
The KLR team will be back on track Friday, March 9 at Thunderbowl Raceway in Tulare, Calif., for two nights of racing.
